Allscripts Upgrade

December 16, 2019

Overview:

In November of 2017, our client elected to upgrade its existing electronic medical record (EMR) system, Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) by Allscripts. The clinical system upgrade took them from version 6.1 of the platform to version 16.3.

Recognizing outside assistance would be required to manage an engagement of this scale, our client enlisted help from the iMethods team of consultants to manage the project, providing support during and after the upgrade.

Results of the Allscripts Upgrade:

iMethods brought on six Acute Care Consultants and four Ambulatory Care Consultants to provide elbow-to-elbow support, strategically sourcing them with clinicians who had experience using version 16.3 of SCM. This resource configuration provided the team with a unique ability to resolve issues in real-time.

During the project, the iMethods Acute Care support team worked 12-hour night shifts for seven days at the Regional hospital and Children’s Hospital. This type of focused attention ensured the smoothest transition possible with the goal of minimizing impact on workflows and patient care.

The Ambulatory Care team rounded the floors of the Hospital, working 12-hour shifts for five days to support the staff at this facility as the upgrade was implemented.

As is typical with an upgrade of this type, issues like application errors, missing icons and PC errors occurred post-activation. To proactively address these challenges, the iMethods consulting team worked alongside users to submit tickets, troubleshoot issues and configure workarounds. Most issues were resolved quickly and satisfactorily, and our client’s users were able to continue providing quality patient care without interruption.

“I want to thank you for sending us a wonderful group of clinicians to help us with our Sunrise 16.3 upgrade. My team was very complimentary of the iMethods contractors and their expertise in helping us deal with the upgrade issues we encountered. Their help was invaluable. We enjoyed working with your team and will definitely think of your company if we ever need additional support for another large project.”
